Recommendations to assess the shear and punching capacity of one-way slabs under concentrated loads according to the ABNT NBR 6118:2014

Abstract This study describes a set of recommendations to improve the precision shear and punching capacity predictions for one-way slabs under concentrated loads, regardless governing failure mechanism, using ABNT NBR 6118:2014 code provisions. For this purpose, database 143 test results was developed, including with different support conditions loading layouts that failed by mechanisms: shear, or mixed mode. The key parameters influencing load mechanism these were considered proposed recommendations: position slab width. Adjustments effective width definition resisting control perimeter described. Arching action loads close also in both predictions. Considering whole without separation ratio between tested predicted resistances expressions shows an average value 1.22 coefficient variation 18.3%. respective reached 1.23 21.3%. Therefore, allow reaching enhanced levels assessing slabs.
